Out of the Closet, Into the Box

[mood |contemplativecontemplative]

Hi guys! No one's really posed a question for the group lately so I thought I'd put one up.

Everyone is aware of how homosexuality has been alluded to in cartoons and other children's shows. In The Simpsons Marge's sister recently came out as a lesbian and on Sesame Street Burt and Ernie have long been the subject of a debate on their sexuality. In Germany, the two are openly portrayed as a gay couple.

How do you feel homosexuality is being portrayed in cartoons and other children's programing?? Do you feel it is being portrayed accurately and openly? Should the writers and networks producing these shows go about introducing children to this topic in a different way?

I've been obsessing over watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently. I think that could count as teenage programming, and it has a very positive portrayal of lesbians. Willow and Tara aren't given any more or less or different attention than the heterosexual couples on the show. And they're adorable!
